There are probably times when you might have noticed a thin film on moisture on your windows, very much like steam. This is what is known as condensation and it takes place when there is a lot of humidity in the air and moisture forms on the inside of the window. You might be experiencing a lot of this during the winter months.
Condensation can either be on the inside or outside of a window. When high quality windows are installed, there is often condensation on the outside, which is fine. But interior condensation really has nothing to do with the windows. Although when drafty windows are replaced with better ones, it helps but does not completely eliminate the problem, particularly during window.
What Are the Effects of Interior Condensation?
Condensation can cost you a lot in terms of damage to property and medical bills. This is why it is important to do the best you can if not to eliminate it completely, then to significantly reduce it.
The major effect of condensation is black mould. The moisture makes surfaces damp and this causes mould which is very destructive to walls, furniture, curtains and clothes. If you have any leather goods in your home including shoes, bags and leather furniture, then they could be terribly damaged by condensation.
The damage from condensation goes beyond property and can cause potential damage to health. This is usually in the form of respiratory diseases and problems of the throat and lungs. These are issues that can linger for years afterwards.

How Remove Condensation
The obvious and straightforward answer would be to remove moisture because it is only when the moisture in the air is reduced that the condensation also reduces. There are a few measures you can take to help bring down the moisture levels in your home.
Get Energy Efficient Windows: While this is not sufficient to completely get rid of condensation, when the places where draft get into a home are blocked, it goes a long way in reducing condensation in the home.
Install Window Film: There are some window film kits which are condensation proof. What that means is that they protect the surface of the window, preventing moisture from settling there and also help to keep the room warmer.
Anti-Fog Products: These are more often used in cars and for bathroom mirrors but can also be used for windows in a home. They prevent the windows from fogging up, thus eliminating condensation. However, these could also be air pollutants so it should be used under advisement.
Window Blinds: These also help to protect the windows from condensation but they should not restrict the movement of air in the room or that would only contribute to the problem.
Dehumidifier: Perhaps the best solution of all, a dehumidifier acts to bring down the level of moisture in the air by controlling the humidity. The way it functions is to remove the water from the air, leaving the air refreshingly pure. It is definitely the most efficient method of eliminating condensation and by extension, mould.
Window condensation often takes place during winter and many times, simple daily tasks like washing, bathing and cooking contribute to the problem. A good dehumidifier will solve this problem and help to avoid damage to property and health.
